We took a weekend away from Rome to get out of the city. We passed this field on our drive. It was beautiful and bright.
This was overlooking some windy roads that we may or may not have driven...the little thing at the top of the hill was a church. It's the only thing up there and not road to get there. Can you imagine climbing that hill every Sunday to attend church?
Hudson getting a selfie with his little buddy.
I LOVE this photo! We went up a hair earlier to get the country house ready for both of our families. Our friends left after their kids got out of school, so Lauren asked to go up with them so that she wouldn't miss as much dance. It looks like Lauren had quite the adventurous ride HAHAHA
We spent an morning/afternoon at a park by a lake and had a picnic.
The view from the country house we stayed at
Hmmm, the only bad part are the two-way country roads...not much room for 2 cars here.
beautiful wildflowers growing around the house
trying to get a selfie without blinding ourselves in the sun
A wild iris growing on the side of a hill
Another wild plant, but probably my favorite just because it was so unique!
close up
Another wild plant ( I have no idea what any of them are)
Hudson posing by an olive tree
an old fashioned swing :)
more wild flowers
up in a tree enjoying the view
She is telling me all about the flowers growing on the hill and that they look pokey but won't hurt you, see? :)
racing up a hill
selfie...the views from the house were so enjoyable
Katherine...always climbing a tree when she can
We wanted to have a treat the first night there, so Jonathan fixed us steaks and baked potatoes in the kitchen. It's the first time we have had them here...kindof crazy!
playing badminton
and Hudson enjoying the Nerf gun
just chillin
After the little ones went to bed, we all played Disney trivia.
We knew we would be at the country house and there might not always be someone to watch the little ones outside, so I bought this ginormous coloring sheet and set it up inside. That way, any one at any time could just come have some chill time coloring. It worked out great as some colored before breakfast or when just wanting some down time or when littles were being put to bed. It was a group effort
We went to see the largest olive tree in Europe. Who knew they could get so big
We thought the tree was at a park because it was online at tourists websites and such, but it turned out it was at a guy's house. We called the number when we arrived and he said that he wasn't home but to enjoy walking around his property. The cat was very friendly.
And he had many chickens
Even a turtle (who was trying to escape)
That was a really full lemon tree!
Kelly and Rachel
This water fountain was powerful haha
stopped at a lookout to enjoy the view
This was the "road" that google maps wanted us to drive down. Ummm, nope. Not happening. Actually, they had signs posted to not drive down it. We parked down teh street and walked.
When walking around this little town, we made a wrong turn, but the view from teh other side was worth it. There was still snow on the mountains.
A local dish that I tried...I don't remember the name, but it was made with duck. The restaurant was L'Antica Bottega.
Movie night...We watched Tinker Bell
All the kids got Easter eggs
Some family coloring time
the park where we had a picnic
water gun fights
throwing frisbee
filling up the little guns in the creek
The park had donkeys and guinea pigs, too
Hudson enjoying the swing at the playground. We basically had the park to ourselves most of the time
These two got tired of the guns and made holes in their water bottles instead
family photo
I spy a stowaway ;)
We pulled off on the way back to the country house to take a picture of the lake from above.
He wanted a selfie with us :)
Another activity was painting Easter canvases. They didn't have 5 of the same so the older girls have a butterfly.
Someone is wiped out
Someone is proud that he is learning to climb trees like a pro!
Knew family photo favorite (at least with the kids that still live at home)
My first time to play Ticket to Ride. We had too many people so played on teams. Hudson and I won the game...hooray!
The final product!
