Colosseum, Palentine Hill, Roman Forum

We have been meaning to visit the inside of the Colosseum since we moved here. I'm not sure why we waited until peak tourist season to do it, but we wanted to go before Regan moved. When we entered, this was the first thing we saw.
You enter on "ground level" which is actually up...the floor is no longer there so you can see the tunnel system underneath. There are actually levels below ground that you can buy a ticket to tour. It would be where the gladiators and animals would have been kept.
It's difficult to get a family selfie with no one else in it.
This was a sketch inside that showed what the colosseum would have looked like. I never realized that they had a roof that they could pull out to give shade.
Walking up a flight of stairs to get.
As you are entering, they have relics and other items that have been discovered inside the Colosseum.
different animal bones found

the mosaic tile work was well preserved
I enjoyed seeing the different plates and bowls.
a replica of what it looked like undamaged
So you can see this type of "construction" at many of the archeologic sites like the Colosseum and the Roman Forum right now because Rome is adding on to one of their metro lines. Even though the work on extending Line C is far underground, the slightest shift in the ground could cause damage to these structures. So while they are working on the metro, you will see these types of bars added all over town to give extra support until the job is done.

They were talking about all of the things they had learned at school about the Colosseum. They knew many more facts and details than I did.

It was a hot day, but we all had fun.

Always taking pictures of flowers

I got a picture of a bee leaving the flower
These two were smart and were resting on the benches.

Yeah! We finally found a water fountain!

we still aren't quite sure about the pinky toe. I'm sure there is a story behind this and probably more of a statue that no longer remains.

Did i mention it was hot? :)

Ok, this one was just funny. I was trying to get a natural shot of Lauren walking and she saw me and smiled. I said no I was trying to get a shot just you looking at things. Then I told her to just pretend and look natural. This is what happened. We laughed so hard. She's not even sure what she is doing.
So after that she got silly and started posing with random items like this trash can.

The detail in these arches are hard to capture in a photo.
The last selfie before we called it quits. The heat was getting to us all. We headed home and got magnums on the way. It was a hot day, but good.
