Rome Day 1

We arrived! The plane travel was smooth. The airport took extra time mostly because of the Covid testing. We had to have forms filled out for the EU and separate ones for each person for Italy and the kids had a third one because they were minors. We made it through, got our bags, and took the dogs through customs. We had told the airBNB host that we would not need transportation until 11:00, but she also knew our flight number. She sent the 2 van drivers at 9:00. Needless to say they were ready to go when we arrived. I have never been in a car ride that was so fast and crazy! (That's saying a lot because I have been in some crazy taxis in the past) We had to document our travel in the back seat with no AC
We arrived to the ABNB. The kids were excited to try the elevators out (just went up one floor...but it came in handy with all the extra luggage)
This is the view down our street. Our ABNB is the one on the right.
This has quickly become my favorite thing in Rome. The water fountains run constantly with cool, fresh water. WE often stop to fill up our water bottles.
Don't worry. If you don't have a water bottle then you can stop up the flow and drink from it like a water fountain (but the force at which it comes out can be quite tricky to drink from without getting wet)
Bruschetta...very good! The restaurant gave one to each of us for free :)
Hudson ordered spaghetti
Lauren ordered a sausage pizza (I think)

Carbonara
The kids' table...Benjamin stayed home because the travel mixed with the jet lag mixed with how long everything took afterwards had him needing some quiet time on his bed to rest. We brought a pizza home to him
Vittorio Emmanuelle Park
Random ruins in the city....still surprised by all of the seagulls here.
random city shot
We had pizza again for dinner, but this time a different style. It is sold by the weight.
We were seriously struggling to stay awake at this point, but determined to go to bed at a semi-normal hour.
I have had this kind of pizza at a couple different places. I think this particular one was one of my more favorites because it had extra cheese. Most of the pizzas here have little or no sauce. So it's definately different than the US.
Basilica Papale di Santa Maria Maggiore, one of the 3 main churches in this area, and piazza dell'Esquilino right in front of it.
On our way home with squinty tired eyes
