A Glimpse of January

So life has been interesting with Jonathan away, but we have managed just fine! Here's some proof of that ;)  Hudson was invited to a double birthday party. They went to play paintball. I originally said he couldn't go because it was nearly impossible with the timing of everything, but his friend offered to pick him up. He said it was really fun!! I'm so glad he liked it!
Katherine has been busy literally making a notebook from scratch! SHe made the paper from recycles, used cardboard from an amazon package for the cover, hand sewed fabric around it to make it pretty, and created a binding.
She's using it to store some of her pressed flowers. SHe took it to school and one of her friends was very impressed. He asked her to make one for him (which she did...minus the fabric...she painted it instead) and he drew a picture for her.
Regan has been super busy and not really having the relaxing time to paint/draw/use watercolors. However, I think she really enjoyed this assignment. She had to use watercolor to paint a person. I think it turned out great!
If you look closely, you can see a million dots in the sky. They are birds migrating. It's been like this all month and a little mesmerizing at times. Sometimes they do these cool patterns in the air (think the fish on Finding Nemo) or look like a tornado coming your way.
Lauren built her Winnie the Pooh Lego set.
Lauren also worked on making a Monopoly game, World traveler version.
Instead of railroads, they were airlines :)
So, not EVERY thing has been without a hitch. I thought I was buying what Jonathan buys for poop bags (instead of actual poop bags because his kind is cheaper) but I bought the wrong ones. The kids laughed at it and the site of the bags being bigger than our dogs.
I washed the sheets and Regan helped me get the duvet cover on...haha! I love her technique!
The dogs got a bath and Scout literally could not stop smiling! It was hilarious
Shadow was happy and clean as well

We made a menu for the entire month with different kids helping at different times with meals. Regan is so organized. She put herself down for TONS of meals because she knew it would help out. All have tasted amzing!
Katherine fixed alfredo for dinner. I forgot to get a picture of it in the serving dishes. I partly forgot because I got a message at 5:00 asking if I could pick Kevin up at 5:30 from school and let him come to our house. His mom would come get him between 8:30 and 9:00. So Kevin (Lauren's classmate) got to eat with us, too! (and he and Benjamin played so Xbox)
YEAH!!! It finally arrived!! Hudson has waited so long for his birthday present!!! We ordered it in October, and it arrived on January 12 (Hudson's Gotcha Day)
He was BEYOND excited!! He's been practicing for hours a day!
Well, I guess this is what happens when your big brother unexpectedly makes you laugh just after you take a big sip of water. Then she couldn't stop laughing at the mess she had made.
Pretty flowers starting to bloom
The look that one sister gives when the other sister...
...aka Katherine...says without taking a breath, "OH! Regan, Regan, Regan! I love your flowers! They are so beautiful! You should give them to me. Yeah! That's a great idea! Regan, Regan, Regan!"
Lauren made pizza ( all the girls chipped in at the end to make the process go a little faster)
We've also had some amazing friends want to do something nice for us. We have had food delivered to us a few times this month. I didn't realize how nice and helpful that would be! It was such a nice surprise.
Lauren used her 3D pen to make a bookmark.
Regan snapped this super cute picture of Shadow.
Katherine playing soccer (twice a week)
Benjamin requested fried rice. I think we have enough, what do you think? :) It was great for leftovers!!!
Another meal delivered to us!
Did you really just wake me up?
We FINALLY found a dance studio for Lauren. The ballet course is actually 5 days a week, but we are just doing 2 days a week right now because she is still finishing up her volleyball season.

A box from Malaysia arrived with some goodies that Mamaw has been collecting for a while. This shirt is so Katherine.
AND another meal delivered!!! :)
Also shirts from Mamaw. They are matching :)
Lauren was making breakfast for dinner, but needed a little help from big sister.
Those were some GOOD pancakes! Jonathan better look out! His title of best chef is really close to being taken over by his kids! :)

The big kids were invited to a college group social event to eat pizza. So, it was just me and Hudson for Sunday lunch!
Lauren and Katherine found out that one of their teacher's birthdays was coming up. They made this sweet card and picked a few wild to give her.
Our morning routine...walking to school
The BEST bathroom sign I have seen to date....haha!
Emily sent me this picture :)

How fun! Regan got a birthday card in the mail :)

In Memory...

Well, my goal for 2022 was going to be to get blogs out in a more timely manner. Little did we know that January 2022 was going to throw us a HUGE curveball! David Owen Sheddan, otherwise know as Dad or Papaw, got sick in Malaysia. He and Mary flew back to the states to receive treatment, but so so quickly, God took him home. There will be a huge whole in the lives of so many, but we also know that because of this man we will meet so many more brothers and sisters in heaven. I chose this to be the first picture because it was his dream. He was going to retire and hike the Appalachian Trail. Yes, the entire thing! When we told the kids the devastating news, literally the first thing they said with tears in their eye was "we are going to hike the Appalachian Trail for him." Secretly, all along, several had planned in their minds to join him (whether this would have been reality or not) He loved his kids and grandkids and always had so much fun with them. I hope this tribute in pictures gives you a glimpse in to his life.

teaching the kids to fly akite

the CRAZIEST Great Wall experience ever! There were thousands of people on the wall and it was so crowded. Everyone wanted to touch the kids, too.
This cracks me up. Lauren wanted to hold Papaw's Diet Coke and he was hold her "wah wah's"
David and Mary came and stayed with the kids for several days so that Jonathan could take me on a surprise birthday trip to New York City! They went on many walks/hikes.
He loved the paper profile cutout that some random guy on the street was doing of everyone walking by, hoping that someone would buy it from him.
He always had time for a game, but watch out if you play Monopoly with him! The kids say he cheats...hahaha! Really he just makes lots of trading deals that are good for him ;)

If you look closely, you can see a dark blob in the shadows. That's Papaw playing tag with the kids in our apartment complex.

Always had time for a board game

Kuching, Malaysia...we never went there, but the kids had shirts from Mamaw and Papaw from there!

His lap just wasn't quite big enough.

Always helping others

Celebrating birthdays in Malaysia
Another birthday in Malaysia (same trip)
Mamaw and Papaw wanted to take the kids on the ferris wheel in Hong Kong. It was the only time the kids got to ride it. They had fun.

Eating dinner in Thailand...the waitresses had never seen such a large family and asked for a picture with us. The name on our table didn't say Sheddan, but said "BIG HAPPY FAMILY" :)

Like father like son...we laughed so hard at the amount of whipped cream on their desserts!

running the color run with Benjamin and Emily
I have a picture somewhere of my kids standing in this tree (or one just like it) Papaw made sure he took us there when Regan was just 2 years old.

holding Katherine

The boys looked so excited waiting for Mamaw and the girls to finish shopping...haha!

He didn't care to get wet even when he didn't have a change of clothes.

He carried them until they were bigger than he was.

The Jingle Bell Run....it was COLD!

Christmas in Malaysia!

showing Hudson how to eat roti tisu
One of my favorites....Lauren wasn't too sure about the snake, but she tried smiling because Papaw was :)

It never seemed to bother him.
