Mt. Vesuvius

We took a train to Ercolano from Naples (15 minutes) and then a bus up to Mt. Vesuvius (30 minutes) It was a pretty drive!
It was a beautiful day for a hike. It was so much fun to hike an active volcano :)
The trails were very steep and the air thinner...so it made for a good excuse to stop and get another picture :)
You can see the road leading up to the volcano. Only the tour buses and taxis can drive up.
You can see all of Naples

Benjamin
My birthday trip ;)
So cool to see the crater and the steam coming out of it.
Occasionally, a cloud would roll over us.
Standing at the top by the crater

Here you can see the steam rising from the crater....you could also smell the sulfur sometimes, but it wasn't really noticeable until after we were away from the volcano and our clothes smelled like it!!

Jonathan and Kelly :)

The only one who wore hiking shoes :)
Selfie with Hudson and the clouds rolling in on top of us. They cleared out as quickly as they came in.

Going back down to catch a bus/taxi to Pompeii

Volcanic soil is great for growing things! Naples is also known for its lemons.
